In Southern California, the case against Pastor Naasón Joaquín García, known by his followers as the Apostle of Jesus Christ, concluded last June 8, 2022 with a sentence of more than 16 years in state prison. A case with extensive coverage in the Hispanic press but with little interest and limited media coverage in the United States, despite there were those who wanted to equate it to other cases such as Keith Rainier or Epstein, but fell significantly short of the mark.
The State of California plunged all the way into the matter, sparing no tax dollars, political influence and time. This was to be the big victory for the California Attorney General, which his office so desperately needed to gain some credibility with Californians. However, this case opened the floodgates of judicial pandora's box and in this case even hope was lost, calling into question the entire legal system of the State.
From the beginning of the case everything went wrong for the California Attorney General's office. it seems that too much time had been spent planning the media circus but not enough time investigating who they were going to target. This was first seen in the embarrassing press conference given on June 6, 2019 by now Health Secretary Xavier Becerra, who was California's top legal official at the time. A press conference that originally lasted over 45 minutes(https://tinyurl.com/yckpr8nm) was edited down to less than 10 minutes (https://tinyurl.com/286f7h8n). The reasons for this were more than obvious. He made the DA's office look intolerant and antagonistic to the more than thirty thousand Californian voters who attend the church he called the Mexican Cult. It is crucial to highlight that according to church leaders this organization has 5 million members around the world, of which 1.5m are in Mexico; the rest are spread out in 56 other countries. He also stated that the parishioners of this religion were individuals not versed in U.S. society, proudly boasting that he had given the largest bail ever granted in California to a single individual. Fortuitously, forgetting the basis of his entire administration: bail and justice reform. He made it very clear that this was not about a matter of California, but about his candidacy for President Biden's cabinet.
The tip of the iceberg, the state claimed to have Hundreds of thousands of videos and Photos, but at the end of the day it came down to one video that the public never saw and a few photos of individuals with masks, whose identities were never revealed. The former AG understood he was in trouble and a deal had to be made before this came out in public and one day before the trail began they signed a plea agreement. Announcing a victory quickly afterwards. Their influence over judges and media coverage could only reach so far, sooner or later their overreach and abuse of authority would be disclosed.
Another example, can be seen in the incongruent ruling of Superior Court Judge Davids Fields on July 15, 2019. He did not allow any of defendant Garcia's witnesses to speak, under the pretext that the church was in no way on trial. However, he founded a no bail verdict alleging that Jane Doe had been coerced under religious brainwashing according to LA Times (https://tinyurl.com/yk3756rp) "Religion was used against these girls" expressed Judge Fields. Insiders told this media outlet that there were two religious experts in that courtroom who could have shed some light on this theory but were denied the podium.
Time and time again the prosecution office conducted themselves as if law did not pertain to them, or just maybe it showed their true colors and conduct. Their actions spoke of an office that can violate every legal and ethical law established in the name of a conviction. It seemed that the only person willing to call out the State was Honorable Judge Teresa Sullivan on September 19, 2022 when she found the AG office in contempt, but one day later she retracted from her decision, allowing the same problem to continue to tarnish the state judicial system, repeating time and time again this pattern of prosecutorial misconduct .

En el sur de California, el caso contra el pastor Naasón Joaquín García, conocido por sus seguidores como el Apóstol de Jesucristo, concluyó el pasado 8 de junio de 2022 con una condena de mas de 16 años en una prisión estatal. Un caso con extrema cobertura en medios latinos pero con poco interés y baja cobertura mediática en los Estados Unidos, aunque había quien quería equiparlo a otros casos como el de Keith Rainier o Epstein, se quedaron muy cortos.
El Estado de California se metió de lleno en el asunto, sin escatimar dinero de los impuestos, influencias políticas y tiempo. Esta iba a ser la gran victoria del Fiscal General de California, que tanto necesitaba su oficina para ganar algo de credibilidad ante los californianos. Sin embargo, este caso abrió la caja de pandora judicial y en esta ocasión se perdió hasta la esperanza, poniendo en entredicho al mismísimo sistema legal del Estado.
Desde el principio del caso todo salió mal para la oficina del fiscal general de California. parece que se había dedicado demasiado tiempo a planificar el circo mediático pero no el suficiente para investigar a quién iban a poner en el punto de mira. Esto se vio por primera vez en la vergonzosa rueda de prensa que dio el ahora Secretario de Salud Xavier Becerra, que era el máximo responsable legal de California en ese momento. Una conferencia de prensa que originalmente duraba más de 45 minutos (https://tinyurl.com/yckpr8nm) fue editada a cerca de 10 minutos (https://tinyurl.com/286f7h8n). Las razones para ello eran más que obvias. Hizo ver a la oficina del fiscal como fanática y racista en contra de más de treinta mil votantes californianos que asisten a la Iglesia que él llamó Culto Mexicano. Es crucial resaltar que según los líderes de la iglesia esta organización tiene 5 millones de miembros alrededor del mundo, de los que 1.5m están en México; los demás, repartidos en otros 56 países. También afirmó que los feligreses de ésta religión eran individuos no versados en la sociedad estadounidense, presumiendo con orgullo que había dado la mayor fianza jamás otorgada en California a un solo individuo. Casualmente, olvidando la base de toda su administración: la reforma de la fianza y de la justicia. Dejó muy claro que no se trataba de un caso de California, sino de su candidatura al gabinete del presidente Biden.
La punta del iceberg como dicho por la fiscal Amanda Pilsner en la audiencia de Junio 22, 2019 (https://tinyurl.com/2x9y2v8z) fue el momento que estado dijo tener cientos de miles de videos y fotos, pero al final del día se redujo a un video que el público nunca vio y unas cuantas fotos de individuos con máscaras, cuyas identidades nunca fueron reveladas. El actual AG Rob Bonta comprendió que estaba en problemas y que había que llegar a un acuerdo antes de que esto saliera a la luz pública y un día antes de que comenzara el juicio firmaron un acuerdo de culpabilidad con Garcia. Anunciando una victoria rápidamente a los medios (https://tinyurl.com/34jswnce), intentando con esto esconder su influencia sobre jueces y medios de comunicación. La Fiscalia comprendía que estas acciones sólo podían llegar hasta cierto punto, tarde o temprano su extralimitación y abuso de autoridad se revelaría al no terminar este caso de una forma expedita.
Otro ejemplo, puede verse en las decisiones incongruentes del Juez de la Corte Superior Davids Fields el 15 de Julio del 2019. No permitió que ninguno de los testigos del acusado García hablara, bajo el pretexto de que la iglesia no estaba de ninguna manera en juicio. Sin embargo, fundó un veredicto de no fianza alegando que las desconocidas habían sido coaccionadas bajo un lavado de cerebro religioso según LA Times (https://tinyurl.com/yk3756rp) "La religión se utilizó contra estas niñas" expreso el juez Fields. Unos informantes dijeron a este medio que había dos expertos religiosos en esa sala del tribunal que podrían haber arrojado algo de luz sobre esta teoría pero se le nego el podio.
Una y otra vez, la fiscalía se comportó como si la ley no les concerniera, o tal vez mostró su verdadero color y conducta. Sus acciones hablaban de una oficina que puede violar todas las leyes, faltando a la ética en nombre de una condena. Parecía que la única persona dispuesta a llamar la atención del Estado fue la Honorable Jueza Teresa Sullivan el 19 de septiembre de 2019 cuando encontró a la oficina del Fiscal General en desacato, pero un día después se rescindió de su decisión, permitiendo que el mismo problema continuara empañando el sistema judicial del estado, repitiendo una y otra vez este patrón de mala conducta del fiscal.
